Let me just preface this post by saying this isn’t really a review but more so word vomit and I’m still trying to figure out what I’m doing.
I’ve been on the search for a trusty concealer for a bit now to replace my Nars Creamy Concealer in Ginger. Now I don’t wear that much makeup, if anything I spend 15 minutes quickly livening up my face in the morning before work so I don’t give off any zombie vibes. I’d also like to point out that I don’t really have much make up experience – like….I can’t even do a smokey eye without it looking like a black eye. Even my cat-eye can be so-so. Like I said, lack of make up experience. I just want to look alive.
Nars was my go-to after watching many YouTube makeup bloggers who have my similar skin tone but only because I didn’t really dare to stand at the makeup counter in Nordstrom or have Sephora associates beat my face with a ton of products.
Over a span of three days I was in and out of Sephora purchasing and then returning items. First I tried the Too Faced Born This Way Concealer in Medium Warm – this concealer worsened the appearance of my dark under eye circles x100. Next up I tried the Tarte Creaseless Concealer in Medium Honey…again the appearance of my dark under eyes was magnified and looks super dry and well gross. It was important for me to find something that was medium but buildable coverage, matched my skin tone since I only wear powder foundation on semi regular basis and is also hydrating.
Is that too much to ask for?! Apparently it is.
I had every intention of going into that store and returning the concealer and never coming back only because the associates that were helping me both at Bellevue Square and Alderwood Mall were not helpful, didn’t listen to my concerns and were pretty much just throwing products at me that should ‘fix’ the problem. They basically just started dabbing at my eyes without really paying attention to what I was saying.
While I was waiting at the counter at University Village to return yet another disappointing product I mentioned how I had a pretty negative experience at the two Sephoras I had previously visited. The cash register was quick to connect me with a ‘colorist’. The colorist that I was paired with listened to what was going on with the concealers I tried and understood what I didn’t like and what I really wanted in a concealer. She was extremely knowledgeable of the products I mentioned and suggested a brand I hadn’t thought of.
Enter Milk Makeup.
I had heard of this brand before through the many YouTube bloggers I watched but the brand was never really on my radar. Boy, am I glad it is now.
At $28 the Flex Concealer is comparable to other brands like Nars, Tarte, Too Faced, Laura Mercier, etc. For whatever reason, the concealer agrees with my bags and my tone. Basically my face is shouting, ‘Yaassss b-tch, you look alive.’ The -wide-ish- shade range of 16 shades that look as if it could work for a ton of beautiful skin tones. I got the shade Medium and when I pale out in the winter I’ll probably go with Medium Beige but I’ll hold on to my morena tone as much as this Washington weather will allow. Don’t quote me on that though, test it out for yourself and let me know what you think. When I first opened up the packaging I thought that maybe this was a squeezy-tube type of deal but instead it actually had a doe foot applicator – which I love.
The consistency was pretty creamy-thick in my opinion but very easy to blend. I used my finger because well I feel like it gives the most natural look and tbh beauty sponges freak me out with all that bacteria just…sitting there.
The concealer claims be creaseless and cakeless but I play it safe by moisturizing well underneath my eyes. Something that I find really interesting about this concealer is that according to the Milk Makeup Website it contains, ‘tiny bendable spheres and elastic marshmallow root powder. (What in the world!?) One of my biggest concerns regarding concealers is the fact that most of products I’ve tried made my under eyes look SO dry and ashy.
As I mentioned earlier I don’t wear too much makeup but it’s nice knowing that full-coverage is attainable and can be used all over your face – like hiding my pesky blemish scars.
I’ve inserted a couple photos, first of me with bushman eyebrows – threading them soon!- with nothing but an eye gel underneath my eyes. [Excuse the lighting – I’m still figuring out this natural light and reviewing thing.]
Here you can see one eye has the concealer blended in and the other eye you can see how much product I use.
Voila, my under eyes are concealed!
